Our Story
We are a close-knit group of four cousins who believe in the power of community and support. Raised by our mothers, who were six sisters growing up together, and our beloved nan, we have learned the values of unity, kindness, and care from an early age.
Each of us has faced unique challenges and pressures of being women from ethnically minoritised backgrounds. We have been fortunate that our moms brought us up with the value of ‘sisterhood,’ teaching us the importance of working through our challenges together. There have been many tears and much laughter along our journeys, and now we are at a stage in our lives where we want to open our ‘sisterhood’ to other Asian women.
We hold a belief that together, we are resilient and empowered #Togetherwecan.
As Asian women, we recognise the value of empathy and belonging, the strength in sharing our stories, and the importance of confronting the challenges we face in today’s world. We are committed to advocating for the equality and empowerment of Asian women, striving to create lasting change in both our individual journeys and our shared experiences.

At AMBER, we aim to create a safe and supportive space where women from ethnically minoritised backgrounds can share their experiences and journeys. We aim to foster a sense of unity and belonging among women who face similar challenges, providing mutual support and encouragement. Find out more about our values and our language here.
By engaging men and women of all ethnicities in our conversations, we hope to encourage them to become allies and advocates for inclusivity and equality.

Anveer
I’m Anveer, and I graduated from Aston University with a Bachelor’s degree in Human Psychology and embarked on my career in Social Inclusion, working with young people in deprived areas. This experience inspired me to become a primary school teacher, a profession I have passionately pursued for the past 18 years. My dedication to learning and education led me to become the Head of Curriculum and the Senior Mental Health Lead at my primary school. In these roles, I advise and support both children and adults with mental health and wellbeing needs, and liaise with local authority support groups.
Outside of my professional life, I am a mother of three young children, who keep me extremely busy. I thoroughly enjoy the outdoors, keeping fit and exploring and adventuring around the world with my wonderful family. I am deeply invested in mental health and wellbeing, striving to create a more inclusive future for women from ethnically minoritised backgrounds.

Sharon
Hello, I'm Sharon, a Senior Social Worker with a passion for helping others. Life didn't always go as planned, but I managed to navigate my twenties by putting myself through university while juggling single motherhood and work. Today, I am married and a proud mom of two—a crazy little girl and a determined boy.
My journey is deeply rooted in the unwavering support of my incredible family. When I'm not striving to make a difference in the world, I love diving into interior design projects or experimenting with makeup. I cherish spending time with family and friends, whether it’s enjoying a cosy night in or hosting a fun get-together. Balancing my career, creativity, and family keeps my life vibrant and exciting. Additionally, as a person living with type one diabetes, I am particularly passionate about raising awareness and supporting others with the condition. I am dedicated to helping people with diabetes navigate their own journeys, offering guidance, resources, and encouragement to lead fulfilling lives.

Andi
Hi, I’m Andi! I hold a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a Master’s in Occupational Psychology. I am also an accredited Senior and Executive Level Coach. For the past 10 years, I have been working in higher education, supporting the career development of researchers dedicated to improving the health of the public.
In my early twenties, I moved away from my family and friends to get married and settled in the North East of England. This experience sparked my passion for the importance of community. My husband and two children continually push me out of my comfort zone with activities like martial arts, cycling, and swimming. My favourite hobbies are trail running and reading. I am deeply passionate about coaching and mentoring, with a particular focus on creating a more inclusive future for ethnically minoritised women in the workplace.
